Nature times the arrival of these autumn jewels to perfection, just when you need a hearty boost of vitamins to warn off the cold, here come the squashes and pumpkins in all their glorious shapes, sizes and colours. Buying squash from our local organic farms for 2 North Parade is one of my greatest pleasures, choosing from; crown prince, sweet dumpling, spaghetti, gem, butternut, kabocha, turks turban and uchiki kuri, all filling the shop with autumnal colour. Their sweet nutty flavour lends itself to soups, and roasting intensifies this and the shape of the squash does provide the perfect bowl for stuffing and baking, with cheese, pancetta, herbs and vegetables, pop into the shop and we'll share some recipe ideas with you.

Nothing says summer like a bowl of strawberries so it makes sense to wait until summer to get the best tasting locally grown berries. We use two local farms for our summer fruit and they deliver to us every day. Here's an alternative to strawberries and cream from our photographer friend Ben Robinson, a chilled soup with fresh basil straight from the courtyard garden at 2 North Parade. The start of the years growing season is always signaled by the arrival of asparagus and we are very lucky to have a farm on our doorstep. Charlie Gee cycles fresh asparagus over to us every day from his Medley Manor farm on Binsey Lane in Oxford. We sent our photographer friend Ben Robinson over to meet Charlie on the farm, here's some of his photos.

Collecting the milk from North Aston dairy every week is an absolute joy, meeting Josh and his milking herd of 16 happy cows, makes that bottle of creamy milk so special.
